What is Sod?
Sod is grass that has been grown at another location, usually called a sod farm, that is cut up from the ground into pieces.
These pieces can be transferred on your lawn to be grown.
Sod is a great way to get grass growing without having to wait on seedlings to grow and sprout.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
Sod vs Seed
There are two ways to get grass growing: seed and sod. If you are not familiar with our seeding, process, check out our page all about seeding here.
Sod allows you to have an “instant” lawn. Seed requires a few weeks of patience while the seedlings germinate and sprout. Both sod and seed require to be watered regularly for the first 2-3 weeks after installation.
If you are wanting to grow grass on a hillside, we recommend using sod. If seed is used, it will likely wash downhill and not take effect. If you are wanting to grow grass on a flat surface, the choice is yours on what you would like to use.

What Do I Get With My Sod Installation
Our crews will start by doing the necessary prep work to ensure that your sod will grow and take root.
If your lawn is getting re-sodded, your current lawn will need to be killed off. This will be done using an herbicide designed specifically for this purpose. Once the existing lawn has died off, we can start prepping your soil for the sod installation.
Our team will go through your lawn and level out areas that are uneven or may be bumpy. Fresh soil and compost may be needed to fill in these areas and add proper nutrients.
Next we will put down an application of starter fertilizer, root and growth stimulant and liquid aeration. This will help the roots from the sod to properly adhere to the soil and grow deep and strong.
Finally, we will bring in the sod. We’ll cut and lay it according to your lawn’s shape and size. Once completed, your sod needs consistent watering for 2 weeks following the installation.
